The SKAMMDEGI DISCOVERY SET by Fischersund is a tribute to the darkest season of the year in Iceland. Skammdegi, the Icelandic word for “darkness,” refers to the winter solstice, when daylight touches the horizon for only a few hours. It is a time of silence and intensity, a moment of haunting beauty and stark contrasts – and this very spirit is captured in three distinctive fragrances that together form an olfactory ritual of the North.

Three Scents, Three Facets of the North

At the heart of the set are three 5 ml miniatures that embody the many faces of winter. No. 23, the house’s very first and still best-selling scent, exudes a smoky, addictive aura. Notes of anise seed, black pepper, and tobacco seed evoke images of firelight, lingering smoke, and deep breaths of icy air. No. 54 is the woody, grounding counterpart to the cold. Vetiver, patchouli, and an animalic musk accord weave into a warming fragrance that radiates intimacy and calm. The centerpiece, Flotholt, was created in collaboration with the legendary band Sigur Rós. Originally launched in 2022 for their world tour, it combines amber, bergamot, and birch tar with fresh air, seaweed, grass, and vetiver – a composition that recalls salt on the skin, ocean winds, and the raw expanse of Icelandic shores.

Craft, Origin, and Experience

Produced in Reykjavík, the set reflects the hand-crafted ethos of Fischersund. Each piece is housed in a tin box made by Birgir, the father of the Fischersund family collective, underscoring the brand’s dedication to heritage and authenticity. Their flagship store on Fischersund Street 3 carries the same spirit: once a bakery, now a perfume atelier filled with history, raw textures, and atmosphere.
