About Eau de Parfum enthusiasts, premium sample hunters & why I'm breaking new ground with scent amor
Sometimes I sit there, take a deep breath of a great extrait de parfum like Ambré by Kintsugi, and think to myself, “This is exactly why I love my job.” And then… the phone rings.
“Do you have something that smells just like Baccarat Rouge—but for 19.90?”
"I want something really special. So Chanel No. 5 would be best."
"Could you send me ten samples? Free of charge, of course. I'm an influencer, after all."
And it is precisely in such moments that I remember why I sold my first fragrance company, my love for fragrance, after 20 years
Because the number of Eau de Parfum enthusiasts has… well… let’s say increased noticeably .
And they often bring their friends with them: the premium sample hunters , who would love to have an entire fragrance library without ever buying a bottle, and the discount knights , who like to base their fragrance decisions on how high the voucher code is at the time.
Everything used to be slower – and somehow more beautiful
The world of niche fragrances used to be different. It was small, intimate, almost romantic. Here, everything began with passion, curiosity, and community.
The time of forums and fragrance meetings
We spent hours discussing new fragrances, testing prototypes, and shaking hands in tiny back rooms at events like the Rheinterrassen in Düsseldorf . Back then, there was no Instagram, no TikTok, no influencers explaining in 30 seconds what supposedly was the best fragrance in the world. There were forums . And being a member was almost as exclusive as being invited to a secret fragrance club. The beauty board and the community of beauty junkies were particularly influential – this is where real fragrance nerds shared their latest discoveries, compared fragrances, and philosophized all night long about amber, oud, and patchouli.
Once or twice a year, we organized large fragrance gatherings in Bruchsal that became legendary. We met in the morning, unpacked bags full of test strips, placed bottles on the table, and spent hours sniffing our way through worlds full of stories. On Saturdays, we sniffed from morning to night —and even after ten hours of discussions, heated debates about the best leather accords, and sharing our secret favorite scents, we never ran out of things to talk about .
These gatherings were so special that there was even an article in the BNN – the Badische Neueste Nachrichten . Suddenly, we were in the newspaper: a small circle of passionate fragrance enthusiasts who met on a Saturday in Bruchsal to celebrate molecules. And yes, we celebrated ourselves – not ourselves, but the fragrances.
In the evening, we usually went out to dinner together. Naturally, everything there continued to revolve around fragrances. Sometimes bottles would land in the middle of the table between the appetizer and the main course because someone just had to show off "that one new fragrance." It was a time full of a spirit of optimism —that energy, that feeling of being part of something new that was just beginning to emerge.
Over the years, some genuine friendships have developed from these encounters. People who simply shared the same passion back then have remained with us ever since. We still laugh about some of those late-night discussions and fondly remember driving home completely inspired—with a bag full of test strips, new favorites, and the secure feeling that we were all part of a small, special fragrance movement .
Why I founded scent amor
The idea for scent amor arose from the longing for a place where the essence is once again important: the love of special fragrances, authenticity, quality and craftsmanship.
A place for passion instead of discount wars
I wanted to create a place where it's not about price wars, but about passion, craftsmanship, and authenticity. It's not about chasing after everyone who wants to "quickly test something." Scent Amor is for people who want to know what they're wearing on their skin. For people who don't just chase the next TikTok trend, but understand that a scent can be so much more: a memory, an emotion, an identity .
Here, it's all about quality – rare fragrance creations, handcrafted extraits de parfum, and a curated selection of special brands that are carefully selected.
Because let's be honest: the royal fragrance claimants who drink champagne and insist on a 70% discount at the same time are rarely happy here.
Two fun facts from the showroom
Sometimes it's the little stories that best demonstrate why I love this job – and why fragrances are so much more than just molecules.
Fun Fact #1 – The “Tester Sommelier”
A customer came into the showroom and "just wanted to quickly test a fragrance." Forty-five minutes later, 27 test strips were in front of him, neatly arranged, like a wine tasting.
He smelled each strip, closed his eyes, nodded meaningfully and finally said:
“I think I need to study the whole thing again at home in peace.”
Two days later he called and ordered exactly the very first fragrance I had given him at the beginning.
Sometimes the nose is faster than the head. 😏
Fun Fact #2 – The search for the “scent for life”
A customer came with the sentence: “I am looking for my fragrance for life .”
So we took our time. Two hours, five collections, twelve fragrances. We sniffed, compared, and philosophized.
In the end she said: “Now I know what I want!” and bought … three bottles .
Her comment: “One for life, and two in case I change my mind.”
That's exactly the magic of niche fragrances – sometimes you find not one, but three soulmates.
About self-proclaimed experts and perfume professors
The world of fragrance has changed. Social media has made things faster, louder, and more superficial. And there they are: the "self-proclaimed experts" who want to know what's good for everyone else.
About followers, forums and filter bubbles
Some people flock to social media, tweaking their filters, and dreaming of free bottles or—with a certain number of followers—even cash flow. There, it's not molecules that count, but clicks.
Others, on the other hand, are on platforms like Parfumo , where people explain to each other how the world of fragrances "really works." And when I say that these people "know exactly what's going on," let's just say... my expression is n't exactly relaxed in those moments. 😉
Thanks to the real fragrance lovers
Fortunately, alongside all the social media experts and discount hunters, there are true fragrance lovers . People who embark on their journey into the world of niche fragrances wholeheartedly, who take their time, discover, smell, compare, and feel.
Conversations that last
Over the years, I've had the pleasure of having long, inspiring conversations with many of you—sometimes on the phone, sometimes at trade fairs, sometimes simply by chance while testing a new eau de parfum . In these encounters, I've been able to experience genuine expertise, gain fascinating perspectives, and share my very personal relationship with fragrances.
These conversations have accompanied me for decades and continually remind me why I do what I do. It's not about clicks, it's not about quantity. It's about passion, stories, emotions .

Some consultations lasted two to three hours. During this time, we browsed through collections together, discussed the craft of perfumery , the art of composition, and rare fragrance creations. We not only offered recommendations but also learned an incredible amount – because every client brings their own story, their own preferences, and often their own expertise.
And the best part: These conversations have already given rise to the first friendships. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude – for all the special conversations, for the trust, and for the opportunity to meet so many extraordinary people who share the same hobby as me.
