Behind the Fragrance
Filippo Sorcinelli Memento DÒMM Extrait de Parfum
A Sacred Journey through the Milan Cathedral
DÒMM by Filippo Sorcinelli is an Extrait de Parfum inspired by the profound, historical atmosphere of the sacristy within the Milan Cathedral. The name "aquilonare," derived from the Late Latin aquilonaris meaning "northern," refers to the ancient northern sacristy – the cathedral’s foundational core, laid in 1386 at the heart of Milan’s bustling urban fabric.
This was the first part of the cathedral to be built after the laying of the cornerstone, and it still preserves precious marbles, sculptures, frescoes, furniture, and wooden drawers used by priests in preparation for sacred rites. Here, sacred tradition meets artistic grandeur – a space where silence, time, and devotion intertwine.
Incense and Styrax – An Olfactory Liturgy
The use of incense and styrax in the Milan Cathedral, as in many sacred spaces worldwide, is deeply embedded in centuries-old liturgical practice. These resins have long symbolized spiritual transcendence. Burning incense, the resin of the Boswellia tree, emits a rich, balsamic aroma, cleansing the air and uplifting the spirit – embodying the ascent of prayers to heaven.
Styrax, with its sweet, balsamic vanilla nuance, complements incense in religious ceremonies, softening the air and creating an atmosphere of introspection. The Gothic grandeur of the Milan Cathedral – soaring arches, radiant stained glass, and vast stone expanses – becomes a visual and olfactory symphony during Mass. Sorcinelli captures this harmony in DÒMM, rendering scent as sacred architecture.
A Fragrant Tribute to Sacred Rituals
This extrait draws from the sacristy's materials and the priests’ vestments, whose textures and ceremonial use have deeply influenced its composition. The top notes of bergamot, cedarwood, and black pepper evoke the crisp coolness of ancient stone and sacred textiles. In the heart, jasmine and a gourmand chocolate accord add warmth and richness – like the comforting embrace of a solemn space. The base unfolds into musk, patchouli, and styrax, grounding the fragrance in meditative depth.
DÒMM is more than a fragrance – it’s a spiritual invocation. A scent for those who seek presence in silence, meaning in ritual, and beauty in sacred places. Discover DÒMM by Filippo Sorcinelli at scent amor – and carry the majesty of the Milan Cathedral with You.
