Ligea is one of the three sirens from Greek mythology, known for her role in stories about Odysseus and his odysseys. Sirens were depicted as creatures who lured sailors with their beguiling song, only to lead them to their doom. Ligea, together with her sisters, symbolises the seduction and dangers of the sea. The Sirens lived on an island and their song was so irresistible that no one could resist it. Odysseus, warned by the sorceress Kirke, had himself tied to the mast of his ship and ordered his men to cover their ears with wax so that they could sail safely past the Sirens' island. There are speculations that the island of the Sirens is the island of Capri, located in the Gulf of Naples in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
