Behind the Fragrance
Balma Venitia WHITE WOOD Eau de Parfum
The aromatic signature of Balma Venitia perfumes. This signature can be found in White Wood, the fragrance creation by Marie Duchêne.
Delicate and sensual, masculine and feminine. The woody notes swirl around the fig tree and a twist of patchouli sweeps past. Or was I mistaken? Green notes are there, in any case. Or was there also something with tonka bean? Unforgettable despite its delicacy. Skilfully orchestrated, without running off with the scent club.
A powerful perfume rose up like a cloud and enveloped me completely. It was an unfamiliar, dark and persistent scent that blossomed in my head and penetrated my heart. It was the wild hemp that grows in the rocky scrublands of southern France, this plant that I discovered...’
Thierry Lemahieu, the founder of Balma Venitia.

Marie Duchêne, the perfumer of the WHITE WOOD fragrance
Born in 1973, Marie Duchêne knew from a young age that she wanted to become a perfumer. She grew up in the Reims region of France and pursued her passion for fragrances by studying chemistry. In 1994, she joined the prestigious ISIPCA institute in Versailles, where she deepened her knowledge of raw materials, fragrance accords, the history of perfumery and the chemistry of fragrances.
Marie's practical training took her to the world-famous perfume region of Grasse, where she honed her skills at various perfume companies. In 2002, she founded her own company, MD Fragrances, offering her customers high-quality, carefully selected raw materials and her expertise. The MD Fragrances team is dedicated to creating exceptional fragrances.
In addition to her work at MD Fragrances, Duchêne is a senior perfumer at Givaudan and has worked with numerous well-known brands such as Molinard, Laboratorio Olfattivo, Nobile 1942 and others. Inspired by her father, who always encouraged her to wonder, Duchêne places great importance on nurturing olfactory memory and encouraging her artistic and emotional curiosity.
Marie enjoys the process of fragrance formulation, which allows her to unleash her creativity within a technical framework. Her approach to perfume creation combines technical precision with artistic freedom, which brings her daily fulfilment. Her best-known perfumes include Laboratorio Olfattivo Alkemi, Laboratorio Olfattivo Tonkade and Nobile 1942 Anonimo Veneziano, which demonstrate her talent for creating exceptional fragrances.
