Xerjoff XJ 1861 DECAS Eau de Parfum

DECAS is a tribute to the Latin word for "decade" and marks the tenth anniversary of the XJ1861 collection, which was first launched in 2011 with the fragrances Renaissance, Naxos and Zefiro. With the launch of DECAS, XERJOFF's collection now grows to celebrate the 160 years of Italian history and creativity reflected in each fragrance. The bottle of DECAS, like the other fragrances in the collection, is decorated in different ways with the colours of the Italian flag to underline the connection with the country. DECAS is a refreshing, floral fragrance with contrasting notes of tobacco and tolu balsam.

DECAS by XERJOFF opens with radiant orange zest, but the multi-faceted nuances of tobacco and tuberose soon unfold, giving the fragrance a multi-layered depth. Tolu balsam is an aromatic resinous substance extracted from the toluifera tree (Myroxylon toluiferum), which is mainly native to Central and South America. This balsam is obtained by cutting into the bark of the tree, which releases a sticky resin that is then processed into a fragrant extract. The scent of tolu balsam is warm, sweet and balsamic with a hint of vanilla and a slightly smoky undertone. It exudes a pleasant aroma that is often described as calming and sensual.

The heart note is warmed by soft and smoky opoponax, while tolu balsam and vanilla create a lasting and impressive base. Opoponax is another aromatic resin in Xerjoff's DECAS fragrance, extracted from the Opopanax shrub (Commiphora erythraea), which is mainly native to the eastern Mediterranean and Africa. The resin is obtained by cutting into the bark of the shrub and then processed into a fragrant extract.

The scent of Opoponax is warm, balsamic and slightly sweet with a pleasant smokiness. It exudes a calming and earthy aroma that is often described as sensual and hypnotic. Nevertheless, the fragrance characteristics of DECAS from the house of XERJOFF are described as fresh, green and floral and include tuberose, Brazilian mandarin and tobacco in the top note, Tuscan iris, benzoin in the heart note and musk, tolu balsam and bourbon vanilla in the base note. Benzoin, another resin in Decas, is also aromatic and is extracted from styrax trees, which are mainly native to Asia, particularly countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Laos.
