Ugo Charron – Sancerre, Sound and the Art of Molecules

A beginning between vines and piano keys

Grew up in the French region Sancerre, in a teacher's household, learns Ugo Charron two disciplines: precision and expression. The piano remains his opposite pole to this day – a school of listening, which later became artistic fragrance compositions. At fourteen, Patrick Süskind's novel “The Perfume” a new world; the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille plants the desire not only to love scents, but to compose them.

Science as a foundation

First, Ugo decides to Chemistry and delves deeply into molecular understanding. On this basis, he builds a Master in Flavors and Fragrances at the University of Montpellier – a turning point where passion becomes a profession and the path to perfumery is clear.

Mentorship, travel and the school of raw materials

His first job atL'Oréalapplies to the stability of formulations – valuable, but too narrow for his creativity. The decisive impulse comes from an online conference: After intensive discussions with Christophe Laudamiel Ugo works closely with him, commuting between Berlin and New York, and experienced in Madagascar the production of Vetiver and Patchouli up close. The boundless creativity and discipline of his mentor shape Ugo’s attitude – the basis of all future projects in Niche perfume.

New York, Mane and Jungle Essence™

In the middle of the pandemic, Ugo starts Mane in New York. The lockdown becomes a time for concentrated study: He delves deeply into the raw materials archive, especially in Jungle Essence™– natural, carefully extracted extracts with a luminous signature. The breakthrough comes with Berry + Blanche for Michael Malul: a strawberry fragrance in which Strawberry Jungle Essence™ not just a theme, but a texture – clear, juicy, modern. From then on, his name is Mane as an address for modern unisex niche fragrances with precise radiance.

Stage, screen and laboratory

In addition to working in the studio, Ugo performs together with Clément Mercet as an electronic duo: performances as an immersive experience – music, video, and scent in a resonant space. During the pandemic, he also discovered the painting as a meditative practice: a silent balance that sharpens intuition and translates colors into chords.
