After studying at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in his hometown of Turin, he moved to London to work for various design and advertising agencies. His interest in the world of perfume did not arise by chance or from a spontaneous enthusiasm; rather, it was firmly rooted in his childhood experiences.

Sergio Momo was born into a perfume-loving family. His father had a passion for natural essences such as frankincense and sandalwood, which he passed on to his son. However, Sergio Momo only became aware of this passion during his studies. Above all, the variety of scents and the associations associated with them fascinated him and increasingly became part of his experiences. The brand name also has its roots in this time. It is a variation of the affectionate nickname "Sir-joff", which his Croatian grandmother gave him.
